What is bamboo?
Bamboo is a group of woody perennial evergreen plants in the grass family. It is also one of the world's most prolific and fastest-growing plants that are able to reach maturity in about four years. Today you can find a plethora of baby supplies made from bamboo such as wipes, cloth diapers, reusable cloth diaper liners, flushable cloth diaper liners, clothes, feeding supplies and toys.
Why bamboo for babies?
• It's luxuriously soft.
• It has supreme absorbency.
• It regulates body temperature.
• It's anti-microbial, anti-fungal, odor-resistant and hypo-allergenic.
Bamboo is extremely permeable and wicks moisture away from the skin. 100% bamboo dries twice as fast as cotton. For babies, staying dry means staying warm and happy!
Why bamboo for the environment?
• It's eco-friendly.
• It's one of the most abundant, renewable, and sustainable plants in the world.
• It requires little water, grows rapidly and can continue to grow after harvest.
• It converts about 35% more CO2 into oxygen than a regular tree.
• When processed responsibly, bamboo doesn’t hurt workers or the environment.
• It is a naturally green source for textiles.
Much of the bamboo that is grown to supply the textile industry is done in a carefully controlled and responsible manner that is certified organic, pesticide-free, and can be manufactured using a “closed system” that reclaims the production materials for recycling and reuse!
How to Choose?
• Uses organic bamboo.
• Uses “closed-loop” production or chemical-free/enzyme-based production.
• Gives back to the pandas.
• Is produced closer to home.
Cloth diapers are back and they are back big. New and improved with no more pricky pins! Now with pain free snaps or velcro/Aplix. They have the cutest and most fashionable styles too.
5 Reason To Use Cloth Diapers
Choice: There are a few different styles to choose from such as the All-In-One or the Pocket style. Both are very easy to use with, the AIO being the most comparable to disposables. The pocket diaper on the other hand will give you the option of adjusting the absorbency. You also have the option of purchasing flushable liners. Additional accessories include luxurious velour wipes and a myriad of wet diaper bags and cleaning systems. Wow! Talk about spoiling. No pun intended.
Organic: You have an option to buy organic or non organic. Either way, both contain no harsh chemicals or toxins (which are the cause of nearly 75% of non cloth diapering diaper rashes), this makes them safe for baby and the environment.
Cost Effective: Over a three year span of diaper use you can save nearly 50% on using cloth diapers if laundering at home. If the other reasons don't spike an interest this surely will!
Softer and More Breathable: These Modern day diapers are made with cotton/*bamboo/rayon blends of your choice that wick away wetness from babies precious bottoms. Waterproof outer PUL fabric is stain and odor resistant, breathable and hypoallergenic.
Go Green: Cloth diapers are environmentally friendly. A cloth diapering family with only one child will reduce their household waste by 50% compared to a disposable diapering family.
*100% bamboo is so eco-friendly — bamboo is a renewable resource with a very short growth cycle and it is grown without fertilizers or pesticides. Plus, it’s breathable, cool, and absorbs 60% more than cotton.
Suggestions: Cloth diapering companies suggest the use of zinc diaper creams when needed for extra protection or healing.
Tips: When your little ones have graduated from diapering keep in mind you may either sell your left over cloths liners and velour wipes or if you are like me you'll keep them and use them as the best household cleaning/dusting cloths ever! Your housekeeper will love you.
